Hello all. My name is Melanie Canaday. Sorry it has taken me this long to post. My story is not nearly as exciting as the others. I was born and raised in a small farming town 40 miles NE of St. Louis that my family has lived in since the 1800's. From there I went to University of Illinois, Pre-Law and Business, got married to soldier and moved from Illinois to El Paso, Texas to Schwabisch-Gmund, Germany to Barstow, California to Tacoma, Washington to Detroit, Michigan to Ft. Leonardwood, Missouri. Got divorced and moved back to Bunker Hill, IL where I started. I earned a Teacher's Certificate from Drury University, and have taught middle school science for Ferguson-Florissant School District for the last 13 years. During that time I got my master's from Washington University in St. Louis. Currently I am the science department chair for Berkeley Middle School, teach 8th grade science and do Professional Development for teachers through STEMpact and STOM (Science Teacher's of Missouri), I have partnered with the St. Louis Science Center, the Botanical Gardens, Challenger Center's, Washington University, Emerson, and UMSL to provide quality science education for Ferguson students. My school is about 10-15 minutes from UMSL. I am excited to be working with you all.
